Client Q & A: Urban Road

Urban RoadSuzie Atkin has loved art from a young age and so, after 10 years in I.T., came back to her passion and created Urban Road. She’s making beautiful, bright art works to inspire living spaces and make contemporary art accessible – affordable without compromising on quality! We’ve been seeing her pieces in the big publications and on T.V., so we had a chat to see where Urban Road is heading and what her tricks are.

Q. If you could give one piece of PR advice, what would it be?

A. Aside from the obvious…have a Press Loft account!!! My advise would be don’t be afraid to ask!! Us creative types can often be too fearful of the no to ask for what we want. This really isn’t exclusive to PR, it applies to all areas of business. But I find if you ask, and can have a compelling reason why, often the answer is yes.

And if it is a no, it’s not that your product isn’t good enough, it just wasn’t the right fit for that opportunity. You can then move on to the next opportunity.

Q. How big a part does social media play in marketing your brand?

A. Social media plays a large role in Marketing Urban Road, being predominantly an online business social media allows us to create a community to interact with our customers and the opportunity to define our brand and our style. It is important to stay connected with our customers and potential customers, social media is the perfect platform for this.

Having said that, I don’t think it replaces the need for physical networking. You can make much more of an impression face to face than you ever will online, I think both are extremely beneficial.

Q. What’s been one of the most exciting points of the year for Urban Road?

A. Launching our canvas prints in the UK this year is definitely up there, in addition to our decision to start collaborating with other artists.

Q. You’ve done some collaborations recently, is this something you’ll continue to do for Urban Road?

A. Yes, our first collaboration with Little Branch has had an amazing response and we are looking forward to launching further collaborations with UK based illustrator Erin Petson and artist Britt Bass in the very near future.

Q. And, who’s your favourite interior stylist(s)?

A. I have two actually, Melbourne based Lucy Feagins of The Design Files, I love her styling and use of colour. My other favourite is American Emily Henderson EVERY home make over I see of Emily’s I want in my home, I LOVE her style.
