Introducing the “What the Media Want” podcast!

The PR Podcast That Goes Straight to the Source 💫

If you’ve ever wondered what journalists really want from the brands they feature, you’re not alone.
We hear it all the time – “How do I get my products in front of the right people? What makes a journalist actually click on my pitch? Is my press release going straight to the archive folder?”

The truth is, PR can feel like a guessing game, especially when you’re trying to figure out the preferences, pressures, and deadlines of the media. That’s exactly why we created What the Media Want, our brand-new podcast designed to cut through the guesswork and give you answers straight from the people who actually decide what gets featured.

Why we made this podcast

As a PR platform that connects thousands of brands with journalists every year, we know there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to landing coverage. Every journalist has their own way of working – from how they discover products to the lead times they work to – and the more you understand their world, the more likely you are to see your products in print and online.

But unless you’ve spent time in a newsroom or magazine office, these insights can be hard to come by. So, we decided to bring the media to you. Each episode features an in-depth conversation with a journalist, editor, or content creator from top publications across interiors, lifestyle, and gifting, where they share exactly what catches their eye, what turns them off, and the stories they can’t resist.

Who you’ll hear from in Season One

Over seven episodes, you’ll hear from journalists at leading titles, including Your Home, Stylist, Ideal Home, Fabulous Magazine and more. They’ll cover everything from the types of images that make it into their pages to how far in advance they work on seasonal features (spoiler: Christmas in July is very much a thing).

Expect insider tips like:

  • The subject lines that make journalists open your email (and the ones that don’t)
  • Why AI-generated visuals can hurt your chances of getting featured
  • The surprising times of day and year when it’s easier to land coverage
  • How to pitch products for big features without getting lost in a crowded inbox

More than just pitching tips

While you’ll get plenty of practical, actionable advice, What the Media Wants also lifts the curtain on the realities of working in media today. You’ll hear how trends are spotted, how tight deadlines really are, and why relationships matter more than ever in a fast-changing media landscape.

It’s equal parts educational and reassuring – because sometimes knowing why a pitch didn’t land the first time round can be just as valuable as learning about what to try next.
