With the amazing success Down that Little Lane has seen on social media it’s no surprise that business founder Tessa White certainly knows her way around pins through to posts. We were lucky enough to chat with Tessa to find out how she does it! Have your laptops at the ready… 1.) You have quite a following on all the major social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest, do you find that one is significantly better for connecting with your customers and encouraging sales? Sure thing, for us as a visual company Instagram, FB and Pinterest have a much better reach. Between those 3 we like Instagram the most as unlike Facebook everyone who follows you can see your posts and we personally find the community so supportive so it is amazing for customer connection. It is hard to relate one or another for attributing sales as we see a correlation across them all but Facebook or Instagram would rate highest. 2.) Which social media channel do you find provides the highest site traffic for you? Unfortunately as Instagram does not allow URL links you cannot track the traffic but Pinterest is the top referral between Facebook, Twitter and itself. 3.) How many hours per week do you/Down that Little Lane spend using social media? 20 hours at least, we love it 🙂 4.) Do you use any handy apps for posting or analysing your results? We use Facebook scheduling but all our other posts are live and done in real time. We use Facebook Insights and the Statistics on Pinterest are fabulous so between those and Google Analytics we get a pretty good overview of what to keep doing and what not too. 5.) What would be your top tips for other retail businesses wanting to improve their presence and interaction on social media? Know your brand and voice and stick to it, trying to be someone else or copying others will mean you get the wrong style of followers which will in return reduce your interaction over time. Maintain a regular presence and even if you schedule things be around when they go live to interact with any commenters or questions. 6.) Do you have any “don’ts” or no no’s for retail businesses on social media? Don’t copy others, don’t bad mouth competitors and don’t be rude. My no no’s are just content based.. steer clear of being heavily opinionated, religion, politics and nakedness! 7.)
