Tiktok for brands

This post is also available in: German

Tiktok has breezed its way into the social media clan and has quickly become one of the biggest social platforms to date. TikTok calls itself the ‘destination for short-form mobile videos.’ With its unique approach and take on social media, it is no surprise that it has become a viral sensation.

TikTok is known for its funny videos, viral dances and makeup and clothing tutorials.  Because of this, TikTok has been pinned into a certain demographic and category of Gen Z. If we took a moment to think about how TikTok could become a massive marketing platform that every single brand could use in their favour for free, then we would be on to something quite special.

Why is it such a big opportunity for brands?

Over the years, brands have used Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest to build a following, build their brand name and generate communication with customers, which ultimately leads to sales. With TikTok coming into play, every single brand should see this as another opportunity to showcase their company in a creative way. The most exciting thing about TikTok is that it is so new, it isn’t yet mainstream for brands, so you can be as creative and as unique as you like. Now is the best time to get your TikTok up and running before everyone else does!

Brands that use TikTok

Many brands have already started using TikTok to their advantage. Successful brands using TikTok include Chipotle, Guess and Calvin Klein to name a few. Their videos range from funny challenges to ‘how to’ guides.

Here is a TikTok trend from Chipotle, they started a hashtag called #GuacDance and it has since become a viral hashtag and dance that many TikTokers are using, now having over one billion views for that one hashtag.

Ways to build your following and views

You are probably wondering how these brands managed to build such a big following and viewership. When starting out on TikTok, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Be consistent, post 1 to 3 times a day. This is especially important to begin with to build your following and views.
  • Use hashtags that relate to trends. You can find viral hashtags on the discovery page, other Tiktokers pages or by browsing the home page.
  • Participate in viral trends like the #guacdance above. If you can incorporate viral trends into your brand then this is a winner.
  • Use your own voice in your videos. Using your own voice will make your profile more authentic and will allow you to connect with your followers more.
  • Engage with your audience. Like, comment and share your followers/audiences content, this will then make them more likely to do the same back to you.

Interior brands using TikTok

As the current demographic for TikTok is Gen Z, US supermarket chain, Kroger, launched a sponsored challenge campaign that invited new students to share dorm makeover videos using the hashtag #TransformUrDorm. The interior world is quickly making its way onto TikTok and taking over the design trends and viral videos.

If you want TikTok to work for your brand, you have got to fully immerse yourself in the platform, create new trends, get involved in all aspects of the video making and last but not least, remember to just have fun!
