Planning your PR for 2021 to generate maximum press coverage

With 2021 just around the corner, it is important to get to grips with the key dates, new trends, and specific themes that 2021 has to offer. Journalists look for a variety of themes and trends throughout the year depending on the season, colours of the year, key events, etc. It is up to you to have those important dates planned and written down so you are prepared for when journalists get in touch for features.

Why is it important to plan your PR in advance?

Planning your PR in advance can make for an organised and stress-free year. If you are aware of all the up and coming events and dates then you are bound to do better when it comes to pitching to journalists and getting featured in the press. Timing is critical when it comes to pitching to journalists, if you catch them at the right time then they are more likely to feature you.

Journalists can work up to four months in advance so it is vital that you have your PR planned so you can get featured in those top tier titles. Key dates will stay the same but trends can change, so make sure you keep up to date with the most popular trends and schedule them into your PR planning.

What do I do after having planned my PR?

Once you have planned your PR from start to finish, remember to keep planning throughout the year. As mentioned, trends change and new trends come out, so make sure you keep an eye on those and add them into your planner as and when.

When you have identified all of the events that are relevant to your brand, the  first thing you want to make sure is that you have your images press-ready and have:

  • Cut-out images
  • Lifestyle images

The next thing you want to do is to write and send a press release for your themes. Sending a press release about those key dates/events/launches can really get you more coverage. On average on Press Loft, a press release gets ten downloads and generates three pieces of coverage.
